Here’s how you can use Instagram for your business – our top 3 tips

The 2019 SA Social Media Landscape report released by Ornico and World Wide Worx, confirms what we already know to be true; Instagram is the new social media force to be reckoned with, with the platform seeing a 73% audience growth in just one year. If your business isn’t on Instagram, it really should be!

Follow our 3 tips below to get you on the right track to harnessing the power of Instagram for business:

  1. Make sure you have a business account: you can either switch from a personal account and keep your existing followers or you can start afresh and create a new business account. Are you wondering why you need to do this? An Instagram Business Profile allows you to track how posts are preforming as well as insights into your audience that are not available on a personal account. If that’s not enough, an Instagram Business Profile can grow reach by promoting posts. Now are you convinced?
  2. Make sure your profile is complete: this may seem like a silly thing to say but we can’t stress this enough. Make sure your bio is in line with your brand, you have 150 characters to get your brand’s message across – use it wisely. Remember your name and user name are the only searchable features on your Instagram account so they are really important. We suggest using your full business name; also make sure your handle matches those of your other social media platforms. Make sure your profile picture is either your logo, symbol or something your audience will recognise your brand – this all helps with brand visibility and growing your online community.
  3. Share really awesome content: Instagram is all about visual content so make sure you use stunning images aligned to your brand. Instagram has the highest engagement rate out of any of the social media platforms at 4.21% – 58 times higher than Facebook and 120 times higher than Twitter (Hootsuite)! And please use hashtags – if you are unsure how best to use hashtags read our past blog on these awesome little guys here!

The bottom line is simple; your brand needs to be on social media since that’s where SA’s consumers are and Instagram is no acceptation. We do however understand that not everyone takes to social media like a duck to water so that’s where we come in J Stop worrying and book your spot on our next Social Media 101 course, we cover the basics of Facebook and Instagram for business.
